Best Warrior

Colorado Army National Guard, 2011

In September 2011 I was commissioned to photograph the COARNG Best Warrior Competition which was the state level event held annually. Junior Enlisted and Non-Commissioned Officers compete in all the general tasks and knowledge fields in a series of oral boards and tested applications. These events begin at the company level. The Service Members being tested at this annual event have proven their merit to competition at the Company, Battalion and Brigade levels. The winners (1 Enlisted and 1 NCO) will go on to compete at the National Guard and Army competitions. 

The competition consists of everything from physical fitness, marksmanship, Army history, communications, land navigation and ruck marching - to name a few. These photographs come from the Ruck March, Land Navigation and Situational Training Exercise Lanes. The photographs also depict many of the support staff running the event.
